Narcan (Naloxone) Training
The Hamtramck Drug Free Community Coalition offers free naloxone medication training sessions (also referred to by the brand name "Narcan") for community members, city employees, groups, and all others interested in learning how to properly administer the medication.
Naloxone is a medication called an "opioid antagonist" used to counter the effects of opioid overdose, for example, opioid and heroin overdose. Opioids are often used as medicines because they contain chemicals that relax the body and can relieve pain. Naloxone only works if a person has opioids in their system; the medication has no effect if opioids are absent. Learn how to use the naloxone medication and what to do if you suspect someone is overdosing.
Each attendee will receive a free dose of Naloxone to take home.
